Growing up in the heart of Los Angeles, surrounded by the studio backlots of Tinseltown, Katharine Rhee was immersed in the world of entertainment from an early age. As a child, Kat was captivated by television and film, fascinated not only by what appeared on screen, but by the creative process happening behind the scenes. That curiosity quickly evolved into a passion for filmmaking and, ultimately, producing.
Rhee pursued her passion at Columbia College Chicago, where she studied production management and produced numerous short films. Her education and early experiences on set gave her an inside perspective on the fast-paced, highly collaborative world of film and commercial production.
It was through her work in production that Rhee discovered food styling—a field that seamlessly combined her production expertise with her lifelong passion for food and cooking. “I have always had a passion for food, and cooking is my therapy.”
An opportunity to work alongside established Hollywood food stylists opened the door to a new chapter in her career. Rhee quickly became an integral part of the commercial production process, developing a reputation for her ability to source the right ingredients, specialty products, props, and fresh produce needed to execute a creative vision on set.
For more than 15 years, Rhee has worked behind the scenes on commercial productions for an array of well-known brands, bringing together her production background, culinary expertise, resourcefulness, and keen visual eye. Her experience navigating the demands of the entertainment industry allows her to understand the needs of producers, directors, art departments, photographers, and creative teams—and to deliver under the pressure and precision of a working set.
Today, Rhee continues to call Los Angeles home, working as a culinary buyer consultant and food stylist within the entertainment and commercial production industry. Alongside her work in film and advertising, she continues to explore her creativity through ceramics and other artistic pursuits.
